Midseason Breach notes outline balance goals and transparency, focusing on diversifying Legend picks and refining breach gameplay. It highlights changes to Gibraltar, Wraith, Wattson, Hemlok Breach AR, RE-45 Burst, Marksman weapons, and utility upgrades, aiming to punch up underrepresented legends and adjust the meta. The post also explains metrics on team compositions, new upgrades, and directs players to Patch Notes for the full changes.
Below, we will share insights into our goals for each Legend or Weapon, challenges we’ve identified, and what changes we are making in pursuit of those goals.
Crushing the Peak of Dominant Team Comps
Gibraltar’s Speed Boost and Electrified Dome
Wraith’s Lowered Cooldowns and Enhanced Ult
Watson’s Hardlight Auto-Reinforce
Say Hello to a Brand NEW Hemlok Breach AR
The Future of the RE-45 Burst
State of the 30-30 Repeater, P2020 and Prowler
Welcome to Designer’s Notes for the mid-season split for Breach! We appreciate all the time you’ve put into the season so far, and we’re grateful for all the feedback. With your feedback and our internal match data, we have been tuning and adjusting to find the balance sweet spot. Your feedback helped inform changes to Octane and the Ranked Drop Zones system, and we will continue to monitor these elements. We also tuned up Fuse a bit and are continuing to aim for him to deliver that offensive breacher experience. For this next split we are focused on our looking to punch up some Legends, lean into the breach gameplay, and bring a unique twist to the Hemlok.
Our aim with this blog is to provide ongoing transparency and reasoning for why we are making the balancing decisions with each update. We want you to head into your matches with this knowledge, discuss how the changes are landing, and let us know what is working and what is not. Your continued feedback is important in helping us tune Apex and make the best competitive Battle Royale it can be!
As we reach the midway point of the first season of 2026, we want to take a moment to introduce you to a specific indicator of game health: Legend squad composition. A healthy state for Legends is one where people feel many different team compositions are viable. Over the last year we have made a deliberate effort to squash the dominance of top-picked squad combinations to encourage creative player expression, or to allow you to play the way you are most comfortable and not feel like there’s one specific trio of characters that is ‘must-pick’.
We measure this by looking at the 10 most popular team compositions and evaluating how much market share they occupy; we pursue a lower percentage/concentration from the most popular compositions, as it indicates greater legend diversity. When we see a rising percentage occupied by a handful of team compositions it indicates to us that the Legend meta has tilted towards a ‘must pick’ squad or Legend combo.
We had a moment late last year where Sparrow and Ash were ripping up the Ranked charts. Anchored by that specific pair of Legends, our top 10 most popular squad compositions represented 25% of all squads in Ranked Apex. If you look at the period just before and after, there was a similar concentration of the top 10 squad compositions representing around 20% of all teams, which was still higher than we deemed healthy.

As you can see in the chart above, over the last 12 months, through a series of impactful reworks, buffs and nerfs, we have seen the concentration of the top 10, 5 and 1 squad compositions drop dramatically. Reworked characters like Ash, Valkyrie and Octane have each had their ‘moment’ of being high pick rate, but we are happy to see the presence of a ‘must pick’ duo or trio in Apex has all but disappeared over the last 12 months.

2026-02-24 through 2026-03-02
Gibraltar has been sitting close to the bottom of the Legend pick rates across all ranks and skill levels for quite a while. We still feel like he has a strong kit but it’s been difficult for Gibraltar to find success, as newer Legends or recent buffs have made it easier to push into his Dome of Protection.

Some of the biggest pain points we are seeing about Gibraltar are that he's big and slow and the dome is too easy to push into, especially with higher mobility Legends.
Gibraltar’s size isn’t something we can change but we did want to tackle the feeling of him being slow. For this we’re adding a momentum passive to help him get around faster while out of combat. It requires him to build up to max unarmed sprint speed and then maintain it for a couple seconds to gain a speed boost. It also gives him some nice synergies with his Fast Shotties upgrade allowing him to activate that speed boost while he has a shotgun out.
One thing that has been frustrating with Gibraltar was that his ultimate had a delay before you could throw it - it could make it feel unresponsive and it functions differently from other Legends. We are improving that execution time and so players won’t feel stuck when throwing his ultimate.
We wanted to take Gibraltar’s upgrades beyond simple stat increases. To achieve this we’ve added three new upgrades and integrated the larger radius ultimate and faster cooldowns into the base kit.
New Upgrades
Thunder Dome will electrify the dome of protection. This will make it so the first enemy to enter the dome will take damage and be slowed for a short time. This should give the players in the dome some added protection and will make enemies think twice before pushing in.
Healing Dome will allow players to get double healing for small meds while in the healing dome. This will also increase the duration of the dome allowing for more healing. This is a great reset tool, giving Gibraltar and his teammates time to quickly recover.
Triple Bombardment will split Defensive bombardment into three charges but with a smaller radius and fewer missiles. This will give players a bit more flexibility on placement and cover different angles versus the single charge version.
We think these new upgrades are going to give some extra defense or reset potential depending on your preferred playstyle.
Wraith has been on a slow decline in pick rate over the years. While she’s always been a popular legend she’s starting to get overshadowed by other Skirmishers. We wanted to find ways to give Wraith some more team utility while also adding some quality of life updates to her base kit.

The feedback we’re hearing about Wraith is mainly that she’s feeling outdated and isn’t offering enough with her ultimate. Also that the ultimate cast time is too slow.
To address these concerns, we’ll be integrating the two cooldown upgrades into her base kit and replacing them with two new upgrades; she’ll now have access to her abilities more often. We’re also speeding up the cast time for her ultimate, making her less vulnerable during that initial wind up.
New Upgrades
Phase Dome upgrade will create a dome when Wraith starts channeling her ultimate. Anyone who enters the dome will go into the void, making them invulnerable just like when Wraith uses her tactical. The goal with this is to offer Wraith's teammates a safe place to wait while she’s getting ready to place her portal. Once the portal is placed the dome will end, players will leave the void and be able to enter into Wraith's ultimate portal. The phase dome does have a timeout since Wraith’s channel time is based on distance. We didn’t want to encourage Wraith hiding in a corner while their team got to stay safe in the void.
Phase Jumper will extend the duration of Wraith’s tactical ability. She will stay in the void for a longer time. She will also gain the ability to double jump while in the void. This upgrade should give Wraith some extra options for escape and traversal.
Wattson has had a pretty flat pick rate despite a bit of an uptick during her last set off buffs. While she is still a strong Controller and offers great area management, we wanted to give her some small buffs and add synergies with Hardlight Meshes.

Some of the pain points we are looking to address are the speed of deployment of her tactical and of its effectiveness. For this we’ve sped up the deployment to be much faster and we’ve increased the damage when getting hit by her fences.
With the new Hardlight Meshes this season we want our Controllers to have some advantages when fighting around them. Wattson already wants to take control of a room so we’ve given her tools to quickly reinforce Hardlight.
By placing her tactical in front of a Hardlight Mesh it will be instantly reinforced. This will rebuild and reinforce broken Hardlight also. If an already reinforced mesh breaks while a fence is in front of it, the mesh will rebuild and reinforce after a short cooldown.
When placing her ultimate a pulse will be released that will reinforce all Hardlight meshes and rebuild broken Hardlight within the radius of the Interception Pylon. Similar to the tactical, if a mesh breaks that was reinforced by the Pylon it will rebuild and reinforce after a short cooldown.
With these new reinforcing capabilities Wattson is going to be able to really lockdown a room with Hardlight.
The Hemlok Breach AR is the first ever fully automatic silenced weapon in Apex Legends. It also comes with a secondary fire mode that launches an explosive Breach Charge, dealing extra damage to Hardlight and placeable Legend abilities.
We’ve always wanted to add a silencer in Apex Legends as it's an exciting weapon mechanic that we haven't truly explored and adds tactical depth. However, adding one to existing weapons has proved to be a challenge, as doing so could change their core feel. Recently, the Elite Weapon design space, has provided a unique opportunity to experiment and we feel it’s the right spot to introduce the Hemlok Breach AR.
With Hardlight allowing controllers to lock down areas we wanted to provide players with exciting new tools to break into those bunkers. Building an elite weapon to fulfill this fantasy was an exciting opportunity because we could be a little more explosive with our ideas.
The RE-45 Burst will be permanently replacing the RE-45 Auto in loot pools!
We had long discussions and evaluated match data trying to decide if we can reasonably replace the RE-45 Auto, but ultimately we feel the RE-45 Burst is a much more exciting version of the weapon with a more defined identity. In its energy form, it no longer competes in a saturated design space with other high fire rate, automatic, light ammo weapons and helps create more diversity in the weapon roster.
If you’ve been following along for any length of time, you know that we’ve been working to shift away from a long-range, Marksman-dominated meta to more close quarters combat. We’re happy to report that we’re seeing Marksman weapon dominance finally coming down and the viability of other weapon types rebounding as a result.

2026-02-24 through 2026-03-02
That said, we have noticed the 30-30 Repeater lagging behind other weapons in its class so we are reverting a previous nerf to base damage.
30-30 Repeater base damage: 41 → 43
After our recent round of buffs to shotguns, we have seen some encouraging upward progress to their encounter win rate.

2026-02-24 through 2026-03-02
While we’re happy with this progress, they still remain relatively low on the graph compared to the rest of the weapons. Because we know that a meta dominated by shotgun strength and popularity can lead to a lot of player frustration, we are going to proceed cautiously and continue to monitor the situation.
That being said, the EVA-8 is receiving a small buff to increase its reload speed.

2026-02-24 through 2026-03-02
Compared to their respective weapon classes, the P2020 and Prowler are lagging behind slightly, so we’re giving them both a bit of a tune up!
P2020 magazine: \[8 → 9]
P2020 points to unlock Hammerpoint Rounds: \[500 → 425]
Prowler burst fire delay reduced
Prowler’s recoil reduced
We hope these Designer’s Notes have helped provide meaningful insight into the dev team’s decision making processes for the balance changes in the second half of Breach. For a full change log of everything happening in Apex Legends, be sure to check out the Patch Notes, available now!

Season 28 launch significantly improved stability and performance for Apex Legends. A server bottleneck caused CPUs on AWS machines to reach 100% usage, leading to FPS drops and slow-motion matches. With server optimizations in place, matches are more stable and the team will continue monitoring for further stability improvements.
With the launch of Season 28, our team made changes that resulted in a significantly more stable, performant Apex Legends experience for our community - specifically, in instances where players would encounter FPS drops or their match would feel like it was running in slow motion.
After thorough investigation, we discovered the root cause of a server bottleneck. Our cloud infrastructure works by having multiple game servers running on each AWS machine. In some cases, the CPUs for these machines were hitting 100% usage and resulted in players experiencing performance drops and slowmo servers.
Our team implemented numerous server performance optimizations and, as a result, we have seen a substantial drop in instances of matches with these issues. We are happy to report: players are experiencing more stable matches!

The above graph displays CPU usage for Ranked servers (the mode where we saw the most instances of slomo) - you can clearly see a drop with the 28.0 launch on 2/10 10:00 PT. The minor fluctuation you see just after 16:00 PT was caused by a small server update we deployed at that time
As always, we will continue to closely monitor and look for more opportunities to improve game stability.

We are making a couple adjustments to in-match audio to align with our continued commitment to provide the most informative audio experience possible.
In response to community feedback, we have lowered the volume of Hardlight mesh shattering.
As footstep audio acts as a primary means of tracking enemies who aren’t in front of you, we are increasing the volume of footsteps from enemies outside your POV - enemy footstep volume further increases as the source of the footsteps gets further behind you (ie. loud when beside you, louder when over your shoulder, even louder when directly behind you). We will continue to listen to player feedback and make impactful changes to polish the in-game experience for our community!
GIBRALTAR
Dev Note: Your big bruddah has been sitting at the bottom of pick rate charts for a while now, so it was time to give him some love. With a new passive that will allow him to traverse and rotate quicker, some quality of life updates to his base kit and some meaningful upgrades to let you choose your playstyle. The Dome of Protection has become easier and easier to push these days so we wanted to give Gibraltar some better defenses and faster resets. We also wanted players to be able to upgrade into more versatility with his ultimate.
Passive
New Passive - Momentum Boost
If Gibraltar maintains sprint speed for a couple of seconds he will get a speed boost.
This will only trigger while unarmed or if the weapon doesn’t have a sprint speed restriction (ex. The Fast Shotties Upgrade)
Gibraltar punch will deal double damage to Hardlight
Tactical
Cooldown on Dome of Protection reduced (was 17s, now 13s)
Ultimate
Integrated the size increase upgrade into his base kit, increasing radius by 20%
Call in time for the missiles has been sped up
Can now throw your ultimate before the ultimate equip animation finishes
Upgrades
Level 2
Thunder Dome: The dome becomes electrified when placed, and will deal 50 damage and slow the first enemy to enter
Healing Dome: Dome duration increases 4s and any player within the healing dome will get double small meds healing
Level 3
Triple Bombardment: Splits the ultimate into 3 charges, reducing the radius and number of missiles for each
Removed Big Bruddah, Bubble Bunker, Baby Bubble
WRAITH
Dev Note: Wraith's pick rate popularity has been on a slow decline over the years; she’s starting to get overshadowed by other popular skirmishers. We wanted to address this by giving her some meaningful buffs to her base kit and by giving her some more interesting upgrade options that will provide more utility for her team.
Tactical
Integrated the tactical cooldown reduction upgrade into her base kit (was 20s, now 15s)
Ultimate
Integrated the ultimate cooldown reduction upgrade into her base kit (was 2.5 minutes, now 1.5 minutes)
Increased casting speed animation for quicker activation
Upgrades
Level 2
Phase Dome: When Wraith starts channeling her ultimate she will create a Phase Dome. This dome will last for 30s or until Wraith places her portal. Anyone who enters the Phase Dome will go into the void.
Level 3
Phase Jumper: Wraith will stay in the void for longer when using her tactical (was 4s, now 6s) and will gain double jump while in the void
WATTSON
Dev Note: We wanted to give Wattson some unique ways to interact with Hardlight meshes and provide some quality of life updates to her kit.
Tactical
Placing a fence in front of a Hardlight mesh will reinforce it; if the mesh is broken the fence will rebuild and reinforce it
Increased fence damage (was 20, now 35)
Reduced fence deployment time (was 1s, now 0.5s)
Ultimate
When Wattson’s ultimate is placed it will reinforce Hardlight meshes in the zone of the pylon; if the mesh is broken it will rebuild and reinforce the mesh.
AR
Dev Note: Breach and Clear! The Hemlok is our latest entry of Elite Weapons. This powerhouse has a custom built barrel pre-attached that provides excellent recoil stabilization, a fully integrated silencer, and a brand new recharging Breach Charge that lets you tear down enemy structures or break into their reinforced bunkers.
Hemlok Breach AR \[Elite Weapon]
Removed Burst & Single firing modes
New Firing Mode: Automatic
Slow fire rate
Body Damage: 23
Headshot Damage: 32
Integrated Silencer
New Firing Mode: Breach Charge
Single shot explosive
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Damage to players: 38 with radial falloff
Significant damage multiplier to Hardlight and structures
MARKSMAN
Dev Note: With our latest pass on Marksmans we were successful in bringing down the overall oppressiveness of our long ranged weapons but in the 30-30’s case we’ve dulled its fangs just a bit too much. So we’re giving back some of its base damage so it’s still a consistent and viable option without the incredible spikes those charged headshots can create.
30-30 Repeater
Increased base damage to 43 (was 41)
PISTOL
Dev Note: The RE-45 Burst was our first foray into the Elite Weapon system and we had always intended to swap back to the OG automatic light version of the weapon. However, in this case, we feel the energy burst version of the RE-45 is a compelling iteration that carves out a more ownable place in the weapon roster. Moving back to its light version only muddies the design space around the R-99, Alternator, and the rest of the light weapons. Moving forward the RE-45 will be a permanent energy weapon.
RE-45 Burst
Elite version is now the default version of the RE-45
Removed Elite weapon visual treatment
P2020
Decreased points required to unlock Hammerpoints to 425 (was 500)
Base magazine size increased to 9 (was 8)
SHOTGUN
EVA-8
Improved base reload speed
Dev Note: When we added the automatic trigger to the Prowler we also increased the delay between bursts to keep its overall power in check since we were increasing its ease of use substantially. However, we didn’t see as big a draw to it as we expected so we’re giving it back some of its snappyness so it feels competitive in CQC.
Prowler PDW
Burst fire delay reduced
Recoil improvements
Olympus
Moved Elysium to a new location on the northeast corner of the map near Rift. The purpose of this change is to eliminate the forced contest between Somers University and Elysium in Ranked and Competitive. We have modified the terrain in this area to support the change, which includes the removal of a minor POI previously in this location.

Bloodhound - Killing dummies in the firing range will now trigger all appropriate “on knock” behavior
Catalyst - Removed a dead spot for Piercing Spikes where enemies could sometimes stand near the center of it without taking damage
Catalyst - In the firing range with friendly fire on, Piercing Spikes will no longer activate because the owner got within range
Octane - Fixed issue where Stim Surge would remain in alt hand while using Akimbo
Fuse - Level 3 upgrade Reignition now works properly against dummies in the firing range
Fixed Sparrow’s SWAT scout skin appearing bright red at long distances
Fixed Newcastle wall destroying Mad Maggie's wrecking ball if deployed too closely
Fixed parts of Catalyst as well as Conduit's Heart Machine skin having visible portions while being revived by Mirage
Fixed an issue where decals on Crypto's Destiny Gundam Spec II skin would remain visible while he was cloaked
Cleaned up the iron sight on the 30-30’s “Long-Distance Agony” skin to align with its others
Can now use the double jump off Octane’s jump pad while healing
Alternator SMG
Removed the extra hit markers (usually reserved for blast patterns on shotguns) when in Double Tap mode
Dev Note: These extra hit markers were making it a little more difficult to track enemies than intended so we’ve removed them to declutter the reticle space and improve combat visibility when landing shots.
Vault Keys
Vault keys will no longer affect the colour of a deathbox
Dev Notes: Vault Keys can be an important piece of loot, but getting baited by a red box with the hopes of a Kraber to be dashed by a Vault Key can feel terrible. This change will retain their rarity but no longer let them drive a deathboxes rarity tier.
New In-Combat Healing System
Apex Bots will attempt to find cover and heal when damaged during combat Use these moments to push!
New Target Acquisition and Awareness System
Apex Bots will make more intelligent decisions around which target to focus on. They'll be harder to sneak up on.
Improved Strafing
Apex Bots can move toward their target while strafing, letting them close distance in a more aggressive way.
New Weapon Switching System
Apex Bots will switch weapons based on the distance from the target. Get too close, and if Apex Bots have a shotgun - watch out!
Improved Bot Traversal
Apex Bots will utilize the various movement mechanics around the map like ziplines, ziprails, jump towers and more, to traverse and pursue.
Fixed the audio mix setting not saving properly on consoles
Lowered volume of Hardlight mesh breaking, as per community feedback
Increased volume of footsteps from enemies outside your field of view
Volume further increases as the source of the footsteps gets further behind you (ie. loud when beside you, louder when over your shoulder, loudest when directly behind you)
PC: Apex now uses the Windows Audio Session API (WASAPI) for microphone input.
This enables support in Windows 11 for the "Voice Clarity" audio enhancement, which you can enable to help remove unwanted background audio.
The option can be found in Window settings. Go to "System > Sound > Mic Properties" and look for "Audio Enhancements" in "Input settings".
Note: if you have multiple microphones connected to your PC & the game is using the wrong one you can either...
Select a specific microphone in Apex's Audio settings in the Voice Chat settings, see "Voice Chat Input Device" option.
Or set your mic "as default for communications" in Windows settings and then use the System Default option in Apex's Voice Chat settings.
Graphics:
Static objects now use bindless resources and batching to significantly reduce draw calls, improving baseline CPU performance for map rendering
Olympus uses improved algorithms to generate occlusion culling data structures, slightly improving CPU performance on the map.
PC: Uses ReBAR for faster uploads of data to the GPU, on systems that support it. This can reduce pop-in of models and textures and also use less time on the CPU, which can help performance stability.
Visual improvements:
More accurate reflection intensity in dark areas
Improvements to the clarity of ambient occlusion and specular occlusion
An anti-cheat update enabled a new detection targeting XIM cheating devices, banning over 2,000 accounts. This follows January's detection of Titan cheat devices, which banned over 1,000 accounts. Use of third-party cheating peripherals is not tolerated in Apex.
BANWAVE:A new detection targeting XIM cheating devices was enabled today that resulted in over 2000 accounts being permanently banned. This follows a detection we enabled in January which targeted Titan cheat devices and resulted in over 1,000 accounts being banned.
Use of third party cheating peripherals is not tolerated in Apex.

Apex Legends introduces a blended ranked system that combines Dropship and Drop Zones. The changes include mixed Dropship/Drop Zone matches, visible individual Rank Tiers in Drop Zones, and Masters players needing to requeue; Dropship keeps the Squad-style Rank Tier Distribution. The update went live on 2/17/26, with a note that Masters players can requeue normally as of 5:57pm PT and ongoing monitoring of matchmaking health.
The update to Ranked lobbies hybridizing Dropship and Drop Zones is now live. Here are all the details you need to know:
ADJUSTED
-All matches with 10+ Diamond players OR 1+ Master/Predator player will have Drop Zones
-Players may experience a mixture of Dropship and Drop Zone matches, particularly for Platinum players or those squadding up with Diamond+ players, as we work out the thresholds
-If your pending lobby will have Drop Zones you will see “RANKED - DROP ZONES” displayed on the match loading screen
-When loading into a Drop Zones match, the Rank Tier Display will show each player's individual Rank Tier (Dropship matches will keep the current 'Squad' version of the Rank Tier Distribution)
-Players in Masters will need to go back to the lobby and matchmake in order to requeue. We are working on a fix that will allow players to requeue as normal and will let you know when it is live
This change is now live, and we will be closely monitoring the impact on competitive integrity and matchmaking health.
Update as of 2/17/26 at 5:57pm PT: Players in Masters will now be able to requeue as normal.
There was a claim that a player was banned for using a specific mouse; this is false. A player behavior detection with other heuristics accumulated over several months caused the ban, and upon review it was deemed a false positive and the user was unbanned. The rule that triggered the ban threshold has been adjusted and historical data is being reviewed for other potential false positives; if this specific mouse was being targeted, you would see this issue across other titles that use EAC.
There was a claim that a player was banned for using a specific mouse. This is categorically false and not accurate. A player behavior detection compounded with other heuristics that accumulated over several months caused the user to meet the threshold for a ban. As per our normal process, we reviewed the ban and deemed it a false positive and unbanned the user. We have modified the rule that triggered the ban threshold and are currently looking at historical data for any other false positives now. If this specific mouse was being targeted for bans, you would see this issue across other titles as well that use EAC.
A patch fixed a bug causing players to lose access to main tabs on the home screen and currencies displaying incorrectly. The update improves UI stability and currency visibility. Good luck on your weekend Apex grind!
We just pushed a fix to resolve an issue where some players would lose access to main tabs on their home screen and their currencies would display incorrectly.
Good luck on your weekend Apex grind!
Wildcard's respawn changes are being reverted following player feedback. The team notes that high-death matches may cause fatigue, and a bug where players respawned off the map has been fixed. Going forward, they will provide more context for changes and keep Wildcard fun for players.
We have heard your feedback, loud and clear, regarding our recent changes to Wildcard’s respawn system. As a result we will be reverting these changes to more align with the Wildcard experience you know and love.
We initially made these changes because match data indicated that high-death frequency in Wildcard matches may be contributing to player fatigue resulting in them leaving the mode. We were hoping to see if shaking up playstyles would help alleviate this potential concern.
It’s also worth noting that some players experienced a bug where they were respawned off the map. This was never the intention. We have identified and squashed this bug, and the fix will go live with the other changes.
As we roll this back, we’ll continue to monitor feedback and internal data. In the future, we will be sure to give you a heads up and provide more ample context and insight for why we’re making changes. Ultimately, we want to make sure Wildcard is as fun for you as it is for us!
This change is live now! Thank you for your patience.
The Apex Legends dev team is implementing a new Ranked system using Dropships and Drop Zones, targeted for rollout next week after backend changes and testing. They will monitor player sentiment and match data and refine the system in the coming weeks. Details include thresholds for Diamond+ players, a live cut-off percentage, a possible mix of Dropship and Drop Zone matches, and the loading screen indicator 'RANKED - DROP ZONES'; UI/UX updates will continue ahead of rollout.
Thank you for your continued feedback about the recent changes to Ranked. After consolidating community sentiment and match data, we will move forth with implementing a new system that utilizes both Dropships and Drop Zones. We are targeting next week, as we need a bit of time to make changes to the game’s backend and ensure testing.
As this will be a net new feature from our team, we will keep an extra-watchful eye on how it impacts player sentiment and match data. We will continue to evolve this system in the coming weeks and months.
The initial details are as follows:
If your lobby has a minimum % threshold of Diamond+ players you will be playing Drop Zone
We will confirm the cut off percentage as the feature goes live
Players may experience a mixture of Dropship and Drop Zone matches, particularly for Platinum players or those squadding up with Diamond+ players, as we work out the thresholds
If your pending lobby will have Drop Zones you will see “RANKED - DROP ZONES” displayed on the match loading screen

As the team is working to rapidly implement this new system, you can expect further UI/UX updates as we continue to refine the feature for more player clarity.
We’ll keep you updated on when this is ready to roll out and any final details. Thank you!

Apex Legends outlines the 2026 Roadmap, emphasizing community-focused development, transparency, and ongoing updates. The plan includes new Legends in Seasons 29 and 32, Legend reworks in Seasons 30 and 31, Wildcard events, map updates, loot changes, and improvements to game integrity and performance. It also reflects on 2025 achievements and commits to continued updates throughout 2026 and beyond.
With Apex Legends’ Anniversary in full-swing, it feels like an excellent opportunity to give you all a lay of the land for what the dev team is cooking up for the year ahead. We want to tell you all about the team’s design philosophy, the goals we’re setting for ourselves and, most excitingly, what content you have to look forward to.
As you read on, please know: we are going to aim to be as thorough as possible, but we will be treating our roadmap like a living plan and we’ll have more surprises to share throughout the year. As an important disclaimer, game development timelines may shift throughout the year. When looking at “The Road Ahead” infographic, note that “Locked” content carries the most concrete timeline, “In Progress” denotes that the features are being actively worked on, and “Planned” content is in preproduction, with work to start soon. If we make changes to the projected timeline, we’ll do our best to communicate what’s changed and why.
Let’s dive right in with a bit of an overview about how we want to push Apex Legends in 2026. First and most important, we are pushing forward with our Community-Focused development process. This isn’t new for our team as we continue to ensure that we’re taking player feedback into consideration with every decision. This means using community sentiment, data driven processes, and years of Apex game design experience to balance our decision making processes.
Another key component this year is a continued commitment to transparent and forthcoming communications. We’ll maintain and strive to strengthen an open dialogue with the broader community, proactively sharing what’s changing and why, so you’re always in the loop and part of what we’re making. For the latest in updates and dev insights, check out the newly formed ApexLiveComms X and Threads accounts.
Our goal for 2026 is simple: continue to evolve Apex Legends, the best, most competitive Battle Royale out there. Competition for all that’s fast, fair, and always evolving with you.
We are continuing our focus on competition and ensuring it has depth for mastery and, at the same time, remain inviting for everyone to join in. It doesn’t matter if you’re a day-one grinder or just getting started… If you want to be the best, Apex Legends is going to be the place to prove it.
With that in mind, we’re excited to share our content roadmap to give you a look at what’s coming in 2026 and beyond. We'll keep updating this all year long.

ALWAYS ON UPDATES
Throughout 2026 and beyond, our team will be focused on implementing quality of life improvements, Legend balance changes, and tweaks to our audio systems to improve the overall, day-to-day player experience. This means, you’ll consistently feel the impact of our team’s quick work in frequent tweaks, adjustments, and updates.
We will also continue our commitment to competitive integrity, dedicated to maintaining and raising the bar on our anti-cheat, matchmaking and server performance.
LEGENDS
Legends are the lifeblood of Apex Legends (it’s right there in the game’s title) so we are introducing TWO new Legends - a Skirmisher Legend in Season 29 and another in Season 32. Both new Legends are designed to shake up how you approach building your squad by providing new ways to take on fights together.
We will also continue to evolve our existing roster with Legend Reworks planned for Seasons 30 and 31. Currently planned in Season 32, along with the new Legend, we will be updating team comp by overhauling the Legend Class system.
WILDCARD
Wildcard was a groundbreaking addition to Apex Legends in 2025, creating an often-chaotic, heartpumping experience, and allowing for frequent experimentation (looking at you, hoverboards). In 2026 we are committing to events in Wildcard every season, with Season 30 and beyond boasting two Wildcard events each, one per split. Keep an eye on the near horizon as we’ll be featuring a pair of special events (we can’t say more now, but holy heck are we pumped for these!)
MAPS
In the first half of the year, we will be working on POI updates, balancing cover placement, and rotational flow focused on improving how they feel to play at all levels of competition. Later in the year, you can expect a competitive update for World’s Edge and a major map update that is sure to shake things up, and bring a little dose of nostalgia to our seasoned players.
LOOT
In Season 28 we shifted the loot pool to make finding desirable items in-match easier by removing Backpacks and Knockdown Shields and tying them into your base kit. Currently slated to land in Season 30, we are overhauling the in-match looting experience. We’re taking aim at making power progression more impactful and streamlined in every single match you play. Furthermore, we will be introducing a new way to wield an existing fan favourite weapon in Season 31!
GAME INTEGRITY
We are shooting for best-in-class online integrity, continuing to crack down on cheaters and improve how we keep bad actors out of the Apex Games. We know we have our work cut out for us, but we’re dedicated to the task.
RAPID RESPONSE TIMES
Rapid responses and game changes from the dev team will be a key part of our playbook as we continue to pay close attention to your moment-to-moment experiences, feedback, and data. Quality of Life updates will continue to roll in during every season. From bug fixes to meta adjustments, you won’t need to wait for the next major update for what matters the most.
While looking ahead to all that’s projected for 2026 and beyond, we wanted to take a moment to thank you and look at the most exciting things you helped us shape in 2025.
In 2025, we:
added all-new content and meta changes all year long
released our newest Legend, Sparrow
launched Wildcard
revamped Olympus and E-District maps
made major changes across our weapons and Legends rosters
migrated the game to new servers for more stability and responsive online play
meaningfully added to our Audio systems, allowing for better threat detection and fairer games with less audio clutter
Also in 2025, we took some big swings at tuning matchmaking and fighting cheaters. We know fighting cheating is a never-ending battle and even a small number of bad actors can impact match quality. These improvements are signals we’re heading in the right direction to keep more cheaters out of the game overall, and that we’re catching more of them earlier than before. We know there's more to do in this area in 2026, so expect ongoing updates.
Let’s take a quick look at some highlights that capture the hard work of the Anti-Cheat team:
~50,000 cheat preventions per day
Our team strengthened EAC client-integrity checks to detect manipulated clients before cheaters enter matches
As a result, players made fewer reports and encountered fewer cheaters as we stopped them earlier in the funnel
>86,600,000 RP removed from cheaters in 2025
Resulting in honest players climbing higher on the leaderboards
Shipped gameplay driven cheat detection models
Models are used to identify anomalous gameplay patterns without relying on client signatures
Bot and Teaming detection fully automated and moved into production pipelines
Aimbot detection models still in validation/testing stage
The following are year-over-year comparisons from 2024 to 2025.
Ranked match infection rate on PC is down ~33%
Our new Teaming detection model resulted in a 300% increase in bans for Teaming
Bot bans are down 38%, implying there are fewer active bot accounts in the Apex games
Reports Per User (RPU) is down for Teaming and Botting, 62% and 58% respectively, meaning players are encountering these issues less than a year ago (Data is aggregated across PC and Console)
Overall RPU's are down 22% (Also, aggregated across PC and Console)
2025 was an incredibly exciting time for Apex Legends and we are delighted to carry that momentum into 2026. Thank you to everyone who has been along for the ride; whether you joined us in 2025, or you’ve been with us from the beginning (or somewhere in between), you are the reason we continue to strive to make Apex Legends the best, most competitive Battle Royale out there. We are thrilled for you all to experience what we have been working on and we’ll see you on the Dropship!
Developers follow up on the reintroduction of Dropships in Ranked and explain why Drop Zones were reverted to keep Ranked populations healthy. Season 26 saw a decline in Ranked players, Season 27 did not improve the trend, and Season 28 data shows healthier activity. The team will continue monitoring, balance global needs, and provide another update next week.
Thank you for your continued feedback on the readdition of Dropships in Ranked. We hear you, and we are continuing to monitor conversations in community spaces and official channels.
We wanted to add context to - and elaborate further on - our decision to add Dropships back to Ranked matches.
When making a decision of this magnitude, one we know will impact a substantial portion of the community, we consider input from a number of different sources. Chief among them are: playtests, surveys and feedback from our players globally, and live game data. With the initial implementation of Drop Zones for Ranked, early feedback sparked polarizing discussions that became more critical over time, especially in certain regions.
In Season 26, our data indicated a noteworthy decline in Ranked population with the implementation of controlled Drop Zones.
In Season 27, we addressed top player frustrations surrounding loot distribution across POIs and scoring, but did not see a meaningful impact on the declining Ranked population data. After the results of Seasons 26 and 27, we decided to revert the Drop Zones, aiming to keep Ranked populations healthy and strong to ensure faster and fairer matchmaking for all.
We know it’s early, but since the launch of Season 28 we have seen encouraging data to suggest more players on their Ranked journey and more matches being played, resulting in a more healthy game experience. We know stats don’t fully capture how matches feel and play out. We’re actively monitoring gameplay and testing potential adjustments based on what we’re seeing in the game and hearing from you.
One of the biggest challenges for our team is to balance conflicting needs in a substantial global player base. In some situations, the needs of one subset of players may directly contradict the desires of another. It is rare that one solution appeases the entire playerbase. While it’s a difficult feat, we are dedicated to making choices to ensure the long term health of the game and playerbase.
We will continue to monitor this topic, and we will return with another update next week.

Hardlight is the newest tactical mechanic in Apex Legends. Starting in Breach, Hardlight will appear on Broken Moon, World's Edge, and E-District, plus Firing Range.

Hardlight acts as destructible windows that replace many of the open window spaces in existing structures. Players hiding behind Hardlight are safe from enemy attacks, but Hardlight can be broken and takes increased damage from specific weapon classes and Legend abilities.
Controller class Legends will be able to rebuild and reinforce Hardlight and can have a total of 4 Reinforced Hardlights active at any given time.

After a few seasons of experimentation, in alignment with player feedback, we have decided to do away with the controlled drop zones in Ranked! The initial intention was to bring the mode into closer parity with the ALGS competitive experience. However, we understand that Ranked, in this state, resulted in some players feeling like a lot was left to random chance dictated by your starting position - time pressure from the ring, starting loot pool, proximity to other teams, and optimal rotations. It also removed aspects of agency over your playstyle and, in that regard, the feature wasn’t a universal win for all players. By bringing everyone back into the dropship to start the match, we’re hoping to give you back full control and put your fate in your own hands! In the meantime, our team will continue to evaluate potential solutions to more seamlessly implement this staple from the ALGS experience.
Legends, we have heard you. We have new advanced audio options incoming.

In Season 28, in response to community feedback, we’re taking it a step further by adding more audio customization options and giving you control. You can look forward to more granular customization options surrounding: Legend Dialogue, Ping Dialogue, and Announcer Dialogue. In Season 27 we added the Focused Mix to provide a more robust contextual in-game soundscape - we’re excited to continue down this path, providing you with even more options to use to customize your experience.
Love Apex Legends but want to sidestep the sweat? Boy golly, do we have something cooking for you!

In Apex Legends: Breach, Bot Royale Evolved lobbies will consist of 1-5 full human squads and a sea of our newly updated Apex Bots. We are removing the cap on earning XP and the restriction to Challenge progression. (Earning Badges is still restricted, and no stats will advance while playing this mode.) Bot Royale has evolved to be slightly more challenging for low- and mid-skill players, and more rewarding for all players. Whether you are new to Apex Legends and want to better understand the game or are a veteran who wants to take a step back and relax a bit with a friend or two, Bot Royale Evolved has something for everyone.

Octane's Stim Surge will no longer auto-activate during various interactions. Crypto's Ult charge gain has been reduced from 10 to 5 to prevent consistently chaining Ults. Crypto cannot gain Ult charge from Power Coupling for 5s after EMP.
Hey legends,
We just pushed an update for the following:
Octane's Stim Surge will no longer auto-activate during various interactions
Reduced Crypto's Ult charge gain from 10 to 5 to avoid the ability to consistently chain together Ults. Crypto will not be able to gain Ult Charge from Power Coupling for 5s after EMP.
Apex Legends confirms a security issue affecting a small number of accounts related to how authentication tokens were validated, causing temporary disconnections. The issue was identified and fully resolved within six hours, with no passwords, personal data, or PII exposed. The team stresses continued focus on validation and monitoring and welcomes responsible disclosures to improve fairness and gameplay.
We recently resolved an issue that affected a small number of Apex Legends accounts after it was brought to our attention by a third party. We reviewed the information, took action, and our response process worked as intended.
The issue involved how certain authentication tokens were being validated on our servers, which allowed some active game sessions to be disrupted for targeted players. As a result, affected players were disconnected from matches and experienced temporary in-game session interruptions.
Once identified, our security and engineering teams immediately began an investigation. Input from an external source helped us more quickly identify the root cause, and the issue was fully resolved within six hours. The fix closed the exploit and prevented any further impact. The issue is now fully mitigated, and there is no ongoing risk to players. No account passwords, personal information, or other personally identifiable information (PII) were accessed or exposed at any time.
We take uninterrupted gameplay extremely seriously. Protecting player trust and fair competition is a top priority for Apex Legends. As always, our teams remain focused on strengthening our validation and monitoring processes. We also want to emphasize that we welcome responsible disclosures from members of the community and will work constructively with those who share information in good faith. These partnerships help us identify and resolve issues faster, and ultimately make the game more fun for everyone.

Patch notes focus on Octane and Horizon balance after the mid-season patch. Octane: Swift Mend max heal from 9 to 6, min heal from 3 to 2. Horizon: Newt Scoot max time from 5 to 2.5 and max speed from 700 to 550. Thanks for the ongoing feedback—see you on the Dropship!
We just pushed a patch that includes the following adjustments and fixes:
Octane:
We have seen an organic drop in his pick rate since the mid season patch went live, which we expected, but that didn't fall enough to a level we felt was healthy so that indicated some of the interactions of his new kit are unhealthy.
Reduced Swift Mend max healing from 9 to 6
Reduced Swift Mend min healing from 3 to 2
Horizon:
Horizon landed at a comfortable pick rate after her recent buffs, but when combined with Octane, the team comp has proven to be a bit squirrely.
Reduced max Newt Scoot time from 5 to 2.5
Reduced New Scoot max speed from 700 to 550
Thank you for your continued feedback. See you on the Dropship!
Ranked lobbies have been adjusted based on previous matchmaking tests as the season nears its end. Masters players will see an increased maximum wait time and can only be matched down to Diamond 3 given current populations. Premade squads will continue using the highest Ranked tier on the team for matchmaking; feedback is welcome.
Hey legends! Based on previous matchmaking tests, we've made some adjustments to Ranked lobbies as we approach the end of the season.
The new changes include increasing the maximum matchmaking wait time for Masters players. With this season's player populations, Masters players will be restricted to matching only down to Diamond 3.
Note: if you're in a premade squad, matchmaking will continue to take into account the member with the highest Ranked tier on your team.
Let us know how your games feel!
Over the last seven days, 10,909 accounts were banned for cheating. The team highlights recent bans by targeted devices/cheats: Xim / Titan: 245; DMA: 402; Other cheating hardware: 300; HWID Spoofer: 1071. Note that these device ban numbers do not reflect the total bans for the week, and we are continuing to implement the new detection model mentioned in our last update.
Over the last seven days (as of writing this) we banned a total of 10,909 accounts for cheating.
We wanted to highlight and share some of the ban numbers for the past 7 days for specifically targeted devices/cheats:
Xim / Titan: 245
DMA: 402
Other cheating hardware: 300
HWID Spoofer: 1071
It is important to note that these device ban numbers do not reflect the total number of bans that were put in place over the past week, and we are still working towards implementing our new detection model we mentioned in our last update.

Patch notes improve Fuse's ultimate reliability by reducing the chance enemies inside the area of effect take no damage. The duration change to Fuse's Tactical is reverted, allowing him to hold space a bit longer in tight spaces. Images illustrating the changes accompany the update.
We received consistent feedback that Fuse's ultimate wasn't feeling as reliable as we wanted it to be, so we're making changes to reduce the odds enemies won't take damage while inside the area of effect. We're also reverting the duration change to his tactical to let him hold space a bit longer in tight quarters.

A patch has been released to address several issues. Epyon's Lash returns to Wild Card and will no longer cause crashes. Gundam badge art now displays correctly when viewing squad teammates, and the announcer will no longer state 'Buster Rifle Being Fired' incorrectly in the Firing Range.
We just pushed a patch to address the following:
FIXED
